Discussing The Bill For The New Autonomous Region Of Papua, Commission II Of The House Of Representatives Waits For A Surpres From The Government

JAKARTA - House of Representatives Commission II (DPR) is waiting for the government to send a Presidential Letter to discuss three draft laws related to the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua, namely Central Papua, South Papua, and Papua Central Islands.

Deputy Chairperson of House of Representatives Commission II, Junimart Girsang, said that while waiting for the Presidential Letter to be issued, his party would conduct consolidation regarding the discussion of the DOB Bill.

"Until now, the presidential decree has not come down. We are waiting while we are consolidating it in the House of Representatives Commission II internally", said Junimart, Tuesday, May 17.

Currently, continued Junimart, the House of Representatives Commission II has formed a Working Committee to discuss the three bills. However, he said, the House of Representatives Commission II is still waiting for the government to issue the Presidential Letter.

Junimart said that the pros and cons of the new autonomous region bill were due to many interests regarding the bill. So it must be discussed carefully.

"We have subjective interests, objective interests, political interests, and even interests that may be divided as well", he explained.

In addition to the consolidation of factions, added Junimart, House of Representatives Commission II will discuss the new DOB Bill with parties who deserve to be invited for their opinions. In particular, the discussion of the three bills.

"For example, the Papuan Meeting Assembly (MRP) will be invited if it voices development for Papua for economic equality", he concluded.

Previously, House of Representatives Chair, Puan Maharani, stated that during this trial the DPR together with the Government and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) would prioritize finalizing the discussion of the Bill which is currently under discussion at Level I Discussions.
