2 Days Of Rain, Dozens Of Villages In North Aceh Flooded, 2,928 People Affected

ACEH - Dozens of villages in Matang Kuli sub-district, North Aceh district, were flooded due to the overflow of the Krueng (river) Keureuto. Floods are suspected of high rainfall that has hit the area in the past two days.

The Head of Public Relations of the North Aceh Regency Government, Hamdani said, the flood-affected thousands of people from hundreds of families.

"There were 15 villages that were flooded due to the overflow of Krueng Keureuto following rain in the upstream area of the river. The flood height reached 60 centimeters", said Hamdani in Lhokseumawe, Antara, Monday, May 9.

Hamdani said that the water debit is still increasing and connecting roads between villages are starting to become impassable. Some people have started to evacuate and some are still staying in their homes.

"A total of 791 families with 2,928 people were affected by the flood. People from several villages have started to evacuate and some are still staying in their homes", said Hamdani.

He appealed to people living in the Krueng Keureto river basin to remain vigilant because the intensity of rain in mountainous areas in North Aceh Regency is still high.

"Rainfall has increased in recent days, the public is expected to remain vigilant. The BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency) team continues to monitor flood-prone areas and prepare for emergency response during floods", said Hamdani.
