Introducing Patron, Ukraine's Advanced Jack Russell Terrier Dog Detects Russia's 200 Bombs
JAKARTA - Don't be fooled by the cute look of Patron. His explosives sniffing ability may have saved hundreds of Ukrainian citizens and soldiers from the Russian invasion.
The Patron is a Jack Russell Terrier. He managed to detect more than 200 explosives and prevent the war with Russia from erupting.
The Patron quickly became the dog symbol of Ukrainian patriotism.
So no wonder, President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded this dog a medal on Sunday, May 8. Not only that, awards were also given to their owners to recognize their service since the Russian invasion, as reported by NBC News, Monday, May 9.
The award is even more special because it was given by Zelensky during a press conference in Kyiv with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. When performing, Patron barked and wagged his tail, sparking laughter from the audience.
Trudeau reached into his pockets as if he were looking for dog food.
"Today, I would like to pay tribute to the Ukrainian heroes who cleared our minefields. And together with our hero, the wonderful little sapper - the Protector - who helped not only to neutralize explosives but also to teach our children necessary safety rules in areas where there is a mine threat," Zelensky said in a statement after the ceremony.
