Distribution Of Subsidized Bulk Cooking Oil Reaches 80 Thousand Tons, Combined Vegetable Oil Industry: Where Did The Goods Go?

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Vegetable Oil Industries (GIMNI) Bernard Riedo said that within 12 days, at least 80 thousand tons of subsidized bulk cooking oil (migor) had been distributed by producers. According to him, the distribution volume is equivalent to nearly 30 percent of the 200 thousand tons of average monthly demand.

The distribution of 80 thousand tons will be carried out in the period from April 1-12 2022.

"In terms of needs, this (distribution) is the same (appropriate). However, the question is where did the goods arrive? This is what we need together with the Food Task Force to find out where the goods came out," he said in the Kadin Indonesia webinar, Wednesday 13 April.

In March last year, it was recorded that almost 60 thousand tons of subsidized bulk cooking oil had been distributed. According to Bernard, the distribution volume is not yet optimal. This is because the subsidy program only started on March 18.

Furthermore, Bernard said that seeing the progress of the distribution which was already quite large, the existing supply should have been sufficient in the community. However, with a well-distributed record.

Bernard said the need for crude palm oil (CPO) for food needs, including cooking oil, did not increase this year. According to him, the need for cooking oil will increase if there is an increase in population.

"Every year the need for cooking oil, even if it rises, is very small. The population does not increase (significantly) so the need does not (increase). Except for Ramadan, it's normal, the rest is constant," he explained.
