Former Komnas Perempuan: TPKS Bill Contains 6 Key Elements, Including The Role Of Regional Leaders In Sexual Violence Education
JAKARTA - Former member of the National Commission on Anti-Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) Sri Nurherwati said the draft of the Draft Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (RUU TPKS) which is currently being discussed in a plenary meeting already contains six key elements.
It is hoped that the contents of the draft TPKS Bill will be able to improve the legal system in handling cases of sexual violence in favor of victims. This was conveyed by Sri in a virtual press conference "Critical Notes on the Network of Women's Rights Defenders Victims of Sexual Violence on the Discussion Session on the TPKS Bill" on Tuesday, April 5.
"I think it is certain that the TPKS Bill already contains six key elements which are expected to make it a special internal criminal offense bill, as well as a lex specialist from the existing lex specialists. Thus, indeed, we hope that this will be able to provide changes in the law handling cases of violence sex in Indonesia," he said.
Sri said the six key elements are prevention of criminal acts of sexual violence, prosecution of perpetrators of sexual violence, and recovery of victims of sexual violence.
Next, there are elements of laying the state's obligations in eliminating violence against women, the role of the community and regional leaders who are able to educate all Indonesian citizens regarding sexual violence, as well as monitoring the implementation of the TPKS Bill.
He appreciated all parties involved in accelerating the discussion and ratification of the TPKS Bill.
"We have to give great appreciation to all parties involved, because after all, the enthusiasm and commitment in efforts to accelerate the discussion and ratification of the TPKS Bill is to seek its substance in favor of the victims. In addition, the discussion is also open," he said.
