Jack Dorsey Reveals That He Regrets For Creating This During His Career In The Tech World

JAKARTA - Twitter founder Jack Dorsey recently admitted in a tweet that he regretted his involvement in creating a centralized internet.

“The days of Usenet, IRC, the web, even email (with PGP) were great. Centralizing discovery and identity into the enterprise is really destroying the internet. I realize I (was) partly to blame, and regret it," Dorsey tweeted.

Dorsey, who stepped down as Twitter's CEO last year, clearly plays an important role in centralizing information on the internet.

However, his statement is an extraordinary acknowledgment of a technology father who made billions of dollars creating platforms as a way to consume news.

Twitter may not be as big as Facebook and TikTok, but its impact on information is undeniable.

Many turn to Twitter when they want to keep up with ongoing events as close to real time as possible, but sometimes companies struggle to combat misinformation, much to the detriment of public institutions, and Twitter's cultural impact is unquestionable.

He has spent considerable time promoting the idea of decentralization on the internet, even pushing Twitter to support the open-source social networking standard aka BlueSky in 2019.

This isn't the first time Dorsey has bemoaned the state of the internet. In December last year, he raved about how Web3 had been co-opted by investors.

“You don't have 'Web3. Their VC and LP do it. It will never escape their incentives. It's ultimately a centralized entity with a different label," Dorsey said.
