Nurul Ghufron: Those Arrested By KPK Are Trash
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nurul Ghufron spoke about regional heads who are still entangled in corruption. He said that those who were arrested by his subordinates were trash from political products.
"In fact, what the KPK has caught is downstream or rubbish from failed political products," said Ghufron at an event quoted on Wednesday, March 23.
Ghufron said this failure occurred because the process of political contestation such as the high-cost regional head election (pilkada). So, they have to rack their brains in order to return the capital when occupying their positions.
"And that is not possible from the official salary. Because the salary is not sufficient," he said.
"So then he has to think about abusing his power, selling permits, trading human resource power, selling PBJ power to procure goods and services and everything that is in accordance with the types of regions," added Ghufron.
This condition, he continued, has become the concern of the institution. Moreover, the anti-corruption commission is now like a cleaner where the waste of political products continues to grow.
"This is a common problem," he said.
"Political products of political contestation or elections should produce leaders who if waste is allowed to be 10 percent or 5 percent. But if it's the other way around, this more waste is not finished," explained Ghufron.

Furthermore, Ghufron also reminded the public that they must participate to stop the number of corrupt officials. One way to do this is by refusing to give money.
He said that the prevention of corruption in the political field cannot be maximized when the people are still tempted by giving money from the candidates.
"Let's make the election process or democracy a healthy and mature democracy," concluded Ghufron.
