Director Sean Penn Films Russian War Documentary, Ukrainian President Calls Hiim True Friend

JAKARTA - The Russian invasion of Ukraine made many parties worried. From among the filmmakers, Director Sean Penn went straight to Ukraine to make a documentary on the Russian attack.

Sean Penn has been heavily involved in anti-war and humanitarian missions over the years. His documentary, Discovery Penn, tells of the actor's efforts to found the non-profit Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE).

The arrival of Sean Penn was well received by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. This is not the first time Sean Pean has come to Ukraine. Last November he visited the Ukrainian military headquarters to prepare this documentary.

The Ukrainian government named Penn as one of the people who supported Ukraine and was there when the invasion began yesterday. According to Variety, the documentary was produced by Vice Studios in collaboration with Vice World News and Endeavor Content.

"Director Sean Penn specially came to Kyiv to record all the events that are currently happening and to tell the world the truth about Russia's invasion of our country," the Ukrainian Presidential Office said through the Ukrainian Embassy in an official statement quoted Friday, February 25.

"The more such people -- true friends of Ukraine, who support the struggle for freedom -- the sooner we can stop this heinous invasion by Russia."
