Attacked Two Policemen With Knife, Man At Paris International Train Station Shot To Death

JAKARTA - French police officers are taking firm action by shooting dead the man who attacked them with a knife at a Paris train station, authorities said.

Police early Monday shot dead a man who attacked them with a knife at Paris' Gare du Nord station, French transport minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari told Radio RMC.

However, Minister Djebbari considered that the incident was not related to terrorists.

"The person who attacked them died on the spot," Minister Djebbari said, adding that two police officers suffered minor injuries, cited from Reuters, February 14.

Gare du Nord Station is one of the largest train stations in Europe and home to international rail services connecting to the UK and Belgium.

Although not considered terrorist-related, Minister Djebarri said the incident had caused major traffic disruptions on Monday morning.

Minister Djebbari told Radio RMC that the incident was not considered terrorist-related, and that the man who was shot dead was known to police for wandering the Gare du Nord.

Meanwhile, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin earlier said the incident occurred at around 7am on Monday morning, adding no members of the public were injured.

To note, concerns over violent crimes and terrorism are one of the main concerns for French voters, as people prepare to go to the polls for the presidential election next April.
