Reviewing KRI Teluk Palu, Coordinating Minister Airlangga Visits DRI Shipyard In Lampung

JAKARTA – The shipping industry has an important role in Indonesia, as an archipelagic country. Therefore, the domestic shipping industry or shipbuilding is considered one of the potential economic driving industries that should be supported.

The role of the shipping industry is considered important in realizing inter-regional connectivity through strengthening sea transportation facilities. Seeing the strategic role and prospects for the growth of the industry, the government has provided support, such as maintaining a conducive investment climate so that the operations and productivity of the shipping industry sector can be optimized.

Not only that, the government also provides training to human resources (HR) engaged in the national shipping industry to further improve competitiveness.

Equally important, the government also optimizes the national shipping industry to be able to support the strength of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Weapon System Main Tool (Alutsista TNI), related to the need for patrol boats and the like.

"We must continue to support this industry to strengthen the Indonesian economy through connectivity between regions by means of sea transportation," said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, citing the ekon.do.id website, Sunday, February 13.

Please note, the role of PT DRU Shipyard in the national shipping industry has been started since 1972. During that time DRU Shipyard has produced approximately 400 ships of various types and sizes.

DRU Shipyard's business lines are new shipbuilding, ship maintenance and repair and conversion projects. In 1993, the company was still named PT Noahtu Shipyard which was inaugurated by the Minister of Industry Ir. Hartarto.

On that occasion, Airlangga had the opportunity to see firsthand the KRI Teluk Palu belonging to the Indonesian Navy, which was produced by DRU Shipyard. At that time, Airlangga went around to a number of rooms that were part of the ship.

DRU Shipyard has international classifications from several other countries such as Japan, Italy, the United States, and France. In fact, apart from being trusted to build ships for the TNI, this company is also trusted to build ships for Pertamina and several other institutions.

In addition, DRU Shipyard has also collaborated with world-renowned defense equipment companies, namely Haveksan Turkey and Thales Netherlands.
