Airlangga Brings Good News: If COVID-19 Is Controlled, G20 Can Generate 33,000 Jobs In Indonesia By 2022

JAKARTA - The government through the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized that Indonesia's Presidency in the 2022 G20 period will bring direct benefits to the economy through as many as 33,000 jobs in the country.

According to him, the chairmanship of Indonesia is the world's largest economic forum can encourage recovery and transformation which of course can have a positive impact on development in social and political aspects.

"During Indonesia's G20 Presidency, more than 150 meetings will be held in 19 cities with more than 18,000 delegates attending, which is expected to encourage the growth of 33,000 jobs", he said as reported on the official website today, Wednesday, January 26.

Not only that, but Airlangga also revealed that the G20 is very likely to increase domestic consumption to IDR 1.7 trillion, increasing the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by IDR 7.4 trillion.

"This value is about twice as large as the 2018 IMF-WB annual meeting in Bali", he said.

Just so you know, this scenario can be achieved if the COVID-19 factor can be controlled. However, if there is a spike in daily cases of the pandemic, the value of the benefits that will arise is believed to be shrinking.

Such conditions have occurred when the government decided to move two important agendas for the physical G20 meeting from Bali to Jakarta, which was originally scheduled to be held from February 15-18, due to anticipating the spread of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 case, which is currently increasing.

"In this regard, the entire agenda of the 2nd FCBD and 1st FMCBG in Bali and the entire series of preparations have been canceled", said an official government document last week.
