Apple Gives Reason Why Security Updates In IOS 14 Stopped Without Notification

JAKARTA - iPhone users with iOS 14 are reported to have missed an important security update for their phones. If they want to get it, they have to upgrade to iOS 15.

When iOS 15 launched back in October, users will be given the option to stick with iOS 14 or experience the new update right away. Those who choose to stay on iOS 14 will continue to receive critical security patches on older updates.

In fact, according to a 9to5Mac report, this week it became known that iOS 14 users can no longer update to that version. The only option that appears now is that the user must upgrade to version 15.2.1.

However, Apple later confirmed to Ars Technica that this was intentional, and the ongoing security update for iOS 14 was only meant to be a temporary grace period.

Launching TechSpot, Thursday, January 20, even so, Apple never mentioned this when it first announced and launched iOS 15. In fact, on the Apple iOS 15 features page, there is still a Software Update section that reads as below.

“iOS can now offer a choice between two versions of the software update in the Settings app. You can update to the latest version of iOS 15 as soon as it's released for the latest features and the most comprehensive suite of security updates. Or continue on iOS 14 and keep important security updates."

Given that every time Apple launches a new version of iOS, complaints will inevitably arise and it will definitely make some older phones noticeably slower.

But it looks like the options are getting more complicated, where when a user avoids updating their phone, it means they shouldn't expect any more security updates. In the end it can make the phone vulnerable to malware.
