Langkat Regent Terbit Rencana Perangin Angin Had Escaped When KPK Holds OTT
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that the Regent of Langkat had fled when he was about to be arrested during a hand arrest operation (OTT) which was held on Tuesday, January 18. He fled with his brother, Iskandar before finally choosing to surrender.
This was revealed by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron when revealing the chronology of the arrests. Initially, the KPK team in the arrest operation moved and followed a private party, Muara Perangin Angin, who would withdraw some money from a bank.
Meanwhile, the other team waited for Marcos Surya Abdi, Shuhandra Citra, and Isfi Syahfitra to make transactions at a coffee shop.
"MR then met MSA, SC, and IS at the coffee shop and immediately handed over the cash. Then the KPK team immediately arrested and secured MR, MSA, SC, and IS along with the money to the Binjai Police," said Ghufron at a press conference at KPK Merah Putih Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, January 20.
From there, Ghufron said, the team headed straight for Terbit Rencana's private home. However, he and his brother, Iskandar, were no longer at the location.
"Allegedly deliberately avoiding the pursuit of the KPK team," he said.
However, Terbit's escape ended on Wednesday, January 19 after he turned himself in to the Binjai Police for questioning. After that, he was immediately flown to Jakarta for questioning until he was named a suspect by the KPK.
Meanwhile, Iskandar is still at the Binjai Police Station for questioning. So, he hasn't worn an orange vest like his brother.
During the silent operation, the KPK also secured evidence amounting to IDR 786 million. "The evidence of the money in question is allegedly only a small part of some of the receipts by the TRP through his trusted people," said Ghufron.
