Add 1,901 MW Of Power Plants In 2021, Indonesia Has Not Reached The Target Aka Only 30 Percent

JAKARTA - The Electricity Subsector of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) recorded an additional power generation capacity of 1.901.74 Mega Watt (MW) or 30.7 percent of the 2021 target set at 6.187.91 MW.

The Director-General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Rida Mulyana revealed that several things regarding infrastructure development that were still below the target could not be separated from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that the additional power plant in the previous year was also lower than the realization in 2020 which was 3.072 MW, and only reached 59 percent of the target of 5.209.4 MW.

"Thus, the total national power generation capacity until the end of 2021 will reach 73.736 MW or 73.74 Giga Watt (GW)," Rida said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, January 18.

As for the addition of substations, the realization also only reached 7,731 mega volt-amperes (MVA), or 91.4 percent of the target of 8,460 MVA. Meanwhile, the addition of distribution substations was recorded at 2.775.4 MVA or 91.8 percent of the target of 3.022 MVA.

Regarding the Electrification Ratio, Rida said that currently, it has reached 99.45 percent of the 2021 target of 100 percent. This electrification ratio has increased by 2.5 percent from 2020 which was 99.2 percent.

"The ratio of increase from year to year has increased steadily because the remaining percentage we are dealing with is 3T (Front, Remote and Disadvantaged) areas and is difficult to reach both in terms of infrastructure and from the availability of PLN funds," Rida continued.

Rida also conveyed the achievement of the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), or how long the electricity is interrupted or out per customer in one year, which is 6 customers/year or 140 percent of the target.

Meanwhile, the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) is the number of times the electricity is interrupted or extinguished per customer in one year, the achievement is 4 times the customer/year or reaches 150 percent of the target.

"The number of electricity customers in 2021 will experience a significant increase of 81,530 thousand customers or about 103% of the target," added Rida.
