Malang City Government Issues Circular To Prevent Dog Meat Circulation

MALANG - Malang City Government, East Java, issued Circular Letter (SE) Number 5 of 2022 concerning Control of Dog Meat Circulation and Trade to prevent dog meat circulation.

Malang Mayor, Sutiaji, said that the issuance of Circular Letter Number 5/2022 followed the rules of Law Number 41 of 2014 concerning Livestock and Animal Health.

"The SE follows the law because it is suspected that in Malang there is (dog meat circulation). In the law it is clear that dogs are not one of the meats consumed by the public", said Sutiaji as quoted by Antara on Tuesday, January 18.

Sutiaji explained that the purpose of the issuance of the Circular Letter was to provide guidance and protection for health for the implementation of public health surveillance in the Malang City area.

In addition, he continued, it guarantees the distribution of safe, healthy, whole, and halal meat available to the public. Then it becomes a guideline for business actors in providing food derived from animals suitable for consumption.

The regulation, he said, stipulates that the entire community, meat traders, restaurants, food stalls, and street vendors are prohibited from selling or cutting meat from non-food animals for consumption purposes.

"In the law, it is clear that dog meat is not one of the meats consumed by the public", he said.

a said that the public is prohibited from distributing or distributing non-food animal meat for consumption purposes. Dog meat traders who are active in people's markets, modern markets, and others are prohibited from selling dog meat.

He added that in an effort to stop the circulation of dog meat for consumption purposes in Malang City, his party carried out raids in a number of places suspected of selling non-consumable meat.

"Yesterday we found 3-4 places that sell dog meat. The Civil Service Police Unit has carried out an inspection and we have given warnings", he said.
