Beijing Bans Small Airplanes To Drones During Winter Olympics, Violators Of Strict Sanctions

JAKARTA - The Beijing Municipal Authority has imposed a temporary ban on the operation of small aircraft in the airspace of the capital and surrounding cities ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Launching the Global Times, this rule aims to maintain air security and prevent illegal aviation activity in the Chinese capital during the Winter Olympics.

While Citing TASS from the Beijing Youth Daily, this ban will take effect between January 28 and March 13 and will prohibit the operation of all small airplanes that move at low speeds and are used in sports, advertising and entertainment.

In addition, by the announced provisions, Beijing residents and visitors will be prohibited from using drones, launching balloons, flying hang-gliders, and the like.

Beijing police said citizens and organizations should cooperate with relevant authorities in aircraft registration, and must strictly comply with regulations.

"Those who violate the General Aviation Aviation Control Regulations will be punished according to the law. And those who violate the provisions on public safety regulations will be punished by public security agencies by China's Punishment Law for Public Security Administration. And if the case constitutes a crime, criminal liability must be investigated according to law.

The 2022 Winter Olympics in the Chinese capital, Beijing, are scheduled to be held from February 4-20, while the Winter Paralympics will be held from March 4-13.

Please note, during the 128th IOC session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 31, 2015, Beijing was chosen to host the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, making the Chinese capital the first city to host the Summer Olympics and Paralympics (in 2008) and the Winter Olympics and Paralympics (in 2022).

Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games in a tight race, beating Almaty of Kazakhstan in 2015, garnering 44 votes against 40 of its rivals.
