Rape 13 Female Students, DPR Hopes Judge Accepts Prosecutor's Demand For Herry Wirawan's Death Penalty

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR RI, Yandri Susanto, hopes that the panel of judges can grant the prosecutor's demand for the death penalty for the accused rapist of 13 female students in Bandung, Herry Wirawan.

"If that's what the prosecutor demands, we certainly appreciate it as highly as possible. It means that the prosecutor's demands are in line with the will of the people who strongly condemn the incident, Herry's behavior towards the students. Hopefully, the judge will also make the same decision as to the prosecutor's demands," said Yandri to reporters, Wednesday, January 12.

The PAN politician hopes that the maximum punishment for Herry Wirawan can have a deterrent effect in society so that the same acts and crimes will not happen again.

"Any child of this nation whose behavior is deviant and perpetrators of sexual crimes can think a thousand times to do things that are inhumane like this," said Yandri.

The head of the commission on religion also hopes that this case will be a starting point in handling cases of sexual violence to the fullest. "Hopefully the message from Bandung through the court in Bandung will be our starting point to seriously address the issue of sexual violence or sexual harassment behavior in all areas, including at all levels, whether it be in the general public or in educational institutions," he said.

However, once again, Yandri wants the judge to decide on the prosecutor's demands to severely punish the perpetrators so that similar incidents do not happen again.

"But we hope that the judge's decision will be hammered on by the judge. Hopefully what the prosecutor is asking for can be considered by the judge to participate in giving the most severe punishment so that there is a deterrent effect," he said.

It is known that the defendant in the case of raping 13 female students in Bandung, Herry Wirawan, was sentenced to death by the public prosecutor. Herry was found guilty of committing such acts of obscenity against dozens of his students.

"In our demands, first we demand the defendant with the death penalty. As proof of our commitment to provide a deterrent effect on the perpetrators or on other parties who will commit (sexual) crimes," said Head of the West Java High Prosecutor's Office Asep N Mulyana after the trial at the District Court Class IA Bandung, Tuesday, January 11th.

Asep who became the public prosecutor also revealed that the second charge against the defendant was in the form of additional punishment in the form of chemical castration.

"Secondly, we also imposed or asked the judge to impose additional penalties in the form of identity announcements distributed through judges and additional penalties in the form of chemical castration," he said.

The third claim, Asep said, his party also asked the panel of judges to impose a sentence of Rp500 million and a subsidiary for one year in prison and oblige the defendant to pay restitution to the children of the victims, a total of Rp330 million.
