For The Sake Of The National Team's Achievement, Shin Tae-yong Asks The Domestic League To Clean Up

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong wants to have a team that excels. To make it happen, he first asked the domestic league to clean up.

Shin Tae-yong's desire exploded after the national team appeared in the 2020 AFF Cup. In the prestigious Southeast Asian soccer competition, the Indonesian national team won the runner-up position after losing 2-6 on aggregate to Thailand in the final.

For Shin Tae-yong, Thailand's strength is quite capable because it is fostered from a good domestic football ecosystem so that they are also able to produce quality players. That is also what Shin Tae-yong wants to instill in the Garuda Squad.

According to him, the most important step is to improve the quality of Liga 1 as the highest caste competition in the country in order to produce quality players.

"Thailand is clearly strong. The Thai league is ranked first in Southeast Asia. It is not easy to raise the level of the national team if the domestic league does not support it," said Shin Taa-yong, quoted from South Korean media, Yonhap.

"League performance and match tempo must be improved, it will bring good quality (players) later," continued the coach.

Regarding the Indonesian domestic league, our ranking is still far below neighboring countries in the Southeast Asian region. For Shin Tae-yong if the domestic sector experiences an increase in quality, it will also increase the level of play of football players who will be useful for the benefit of the national team.

Despite these expectations, Shin Tae-yong also never tire of encouraging and suggesting young players to be able to play abroad. Like what Egy Maulana Vikri or Asnawi Mangkualam did, for the experience of competing at a higher level than the local league.
