Indonesia Defeated By Thailand 4-0, Shin Tae-yong: We Haven't Given Up And Will Keep Fighting

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team bowed sluggishly after losing against Thailand in the first leg of the 2020 AFF Cup final. However, Shin Tae-yong still has optimism and confidence in winning.

The South Korean coach said that the Garuda squad had not given up. They will also continue to fight until the last match in the second leg on January 1.

"The ball is round, we will not give up and we will continue to fight," Shin Tae-yong said at his post-match press conference.

In the match at the National Stadium, Singapore last Wednesday night, Indonesia had to suffer a crushing defeat. The reason is, Thailand successfully bombarded the goal that was guarded by Nadeo Argawinata four goals without reply.

The War Elephant Troops scored two goals through the execution of Chanathip Songkrasin, who opened the scoring when the game had just started two minutes ago followed by a second goal when the game was running 52 minutes.

In addition to the brace from Songkrasin, Thailand's two goals were contributed by Supachak Sarachat in the 67th minute and Bordn Phala in the 83rd minute. This unanswered defeat was clearly a crushing blow for Asnawi Mangkualam et al, who were previously considered to be quite impressive.

Even though he accepted a painful defeat, Shin Tae-yong still tried to be proud. Previously, the South Korean coach also said he could accept the results of this match with sincerity.

"I accept this defeat and I know that it is almost impossible to come back and beat Thailand in the second leg," said the coach.

"Especially if we play like we did in the second half tonight," he explained

The 0-4 defeat in the first leg made Indonesia's chances of winning the 2020 AFF Cup very small. Because in the second leg match Indonesia must win by a difference of five goals or at least four goals in order to continue the match into extra time.
