Preventing Omicron Variant Surge, NasDem Supports Government Implementing Micro Lockdown

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives, the NasDem Fraction, Nurhadi, supports the government in implementing a micro-lockdown policy to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant in Indonesia. This call is in line with the emergence of cases of local transmission.

"I fully support the micro-lockdown policy launched by the government to contain the spread of the Omicron virus", Nurhadi told reporters, Wednesday, December 29.

According to him, the government's firm stance has so far proven effective and quite effective in suppressing the spread of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 case in the country. However, Nurhadi still reminded the government to be more strict in implementing testing and tracing.

"With targeted tracing and testing, it will be easy to anticipate its spread", he said.

The East Java legislator also asked the government to tighten the granting of quarantine dispensation. According to him, the case of one patient escaping the Wisma Atlet quarantine provides a lesson for all parties to comply with the quarantine rules.

"We hope that no more COVID-19 patients, especially the Omicron variant, will escape quarantine", hoped the general chairman of ARSSLI (Association of Indonesian Local Private Broadcasting Radio).

Nevertheless, Nurhadi said the micro-lockdown policy must be limited in time because an evaluation must be carried out whether it is effective or not.

"But the government must ensure the sustainability of the lives of residents as long as the policy is implemented", he said.

As is known, the government will increase the restriction on community movement (lockdown) at the micro-level in Indonesia, to anticipate the surge in COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant.
