Cooking Oil Prices Rise, Deputy Minister Of Trade Jerry Sambuaga Talks Surprisingly: I Checked The Market Several Times, Fluctuations Are Still At A Normal Stage

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Trade (Wamendag) Jerry Sambuaga claims that the current increase in cooking oil prices in the market is still fairly reasonable. The increase was triggered by the increase in the price of crude palm oil (CPO) in the world.

"Fluctuations are at a reasonable level. I checked several times on the market, the prices, cooking oil had gone up, had gone down too. The fluctuations were quite conducive and prices were not too high," he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, December 22.

Jerry also said that the fluctuations in cooking oil in the market were purely due to the effect of rising CPO prices on the world market. Meanwhile, the increase in CPO prices occurred due to improving demand in the midst of world economic recovery.

Furthermore, Jerry said that the increase in cooking oil prices tends to occur in packaged cooking oil. Meanwhile, bulk cooking oil with simple packaging is not too high.

To stabilize the price of cooking oil in the market, Jerry said that the government has also intervened in the form of pouring out 11 million liters of cooking oil in simple packages and priced at Rp14,000 per package.

According to Jerry, this step is sufficient to maintain the availability of oil supply so that it is hoped that oil prices will also fall in the future.

"This is one of the ways and tips from the government to ensure how we anticipate and also provide commodity stability, more specifically for cooking oil. With this we can also ensure that oil prices are well controlled and well controlled. Consumers can also buy with relatively favorable prices," he said.
