Reportedly Will Annex A Bank Owned By Conglomerate Jogi Hendra Atmadja, BNI Management Neither Denies Nor Confirms

JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) responded to news regarding the company's upcoming acquisition in the first quarter of 2022. The state-owned bank is expected to acquire a banking company belonging to the Jogi Hendra Atmadja conglomerate, PT Bank Mayora.

Regarding the news, BNI's Corporate Secretary, Mucharom, neither denied nor confirmed the name of Bank Mayora, which the company will acquire. However, Mucharom said that currently, his party is entering the stage to develop digital capabilities through inorganic strategies.

However, Mucharom continued, by taking into account the principles of governance, currently, BNI has not been able to provide a more in-depth explanation or disclosure regarding this matter.

"In the event that based on the agreement of the parties and the applicable provisions, the company has been able to make disclosures, then the company will carry out it in accordance with applicable regulations," Mucharom said in information disclosure, quoted Wednesday, December 22.

However, Mucharom emphasized that the news did not affect the company's survival and did not affect BBNI's share price.

As is known, BNI is rolling out a plan to take over a bank that is classified as a commercial bank for business activities (BUKU) 2 to be developed as a digital bank, in accordance with the latest developments in the banking business.

Previously in October 2021, BNI's IT & Operations Director, YB Hariantono said that the company was in a serious position in setting up a digital bank. The segment that BNI will target has also been determined.

Hariantono said that in the process of establishing a digital bank, BNI has prepared a combination of stakeholders who have their own strengths to run the company later. However, the names have not yet been published by the company.
