Grandma Nurbaiti Died In The Gadang House In Jorong Koto Tuo, West Sumatra

PADANG - One person was declared dead in the fire accident at the gadang house that occurred in Jorong Koto Tuo, Nagari Simarasok, Baso, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Monday, December 20 night.

"The victim is the owner of the house on behalf of Nurbaiti (85), the Jambak tribe lived alone in their residence in the form of a rumah gadang (West Sumatra traditional house) at the time of the incident," said the Agam District Fire Team Commander (Danru), Alex in Bukittinggi, as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 21.

The victim could not be saved by the residents and the firefighting team because the fire quickly burned down the house, which generally consists of wood.

"We also received information from the residents of Simarasok regarding this fire accident and arrived at the location when the fire was out of control," he said.

He said that 6 units of the fire brigade team came from the Agam District Fire Department, 3 units and assisted from the Bukittinggi City, Payakumbuh City and Fifty Cities Districts, one unit each.

The gadang building with a size of 15x9 meters was burned down and also caused material losses of hundreds of millions.

"The loss is around Rp150 million, the origin of the fire is still unknown, the fire can be extinguished about an hour later with the help of residents of Jorong Koto Tuo," he said.

It is known that the elderly victim suffered from leg pain that made it difficult to walk and lived in a gadang house which the local community called Rumah Tuo Baiti.

The victim's body was then taken to the nearest relative's house for immediate burial in the family cemetery.
