JAKARTA - An earthquake occurred in the Jember area, East Java. The shock of the Jember earthquake was reported to be felt as far as Bali.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the Jember earthquake had a magnitude of 5.1. The depth of the Jember earthquake was recorded at 10 kilometers.

The Jember earthquake occurred at 06.01 WIB, Thursday, December 16. Its location is at 8.55 South Latitude, 113.49 East Longitude (42 km southwest of Jember). BMKG confirmed that the Jember earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.
