Komnas HAM Admits It Has Not Been Invited By The Government To Discuss The TRC Bill
JAKARTA - Currently, the government is refining the academic text of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Bill (RUU KKR). However, it turns out that until now the Deputy Chairperson of Komnas HAM, Amiruddin, admitted that his party had never been formally consulted by the government to draft the TRC Bill.
In fact, the Head of the Follow-up Team for the Investigation of Serious Human Rights Violations emphasized that Komnas HAM should have been involved from the start.
"Don't let the draft of the TRC Bill be drawn up unilaterally, which will later lead to rejection. Because in the past, namely in 2006, the Court has canceled the TRC Law which has been ratified by the government," said Amiruddin in his statement, Sunday, December 12.
Given the importance of the TRC Bill, Amiruddin emphasized that the government should be open from the start in preparing the draft, and involve many parties, especially representatives of the families of victims and victims.
Furthermore, Amiruddin revealed that to this day, the resolution of gross human rights violations through non-judicial processes has always been a government discourse from year to year.
"It's better for the government to stop talking about it, and start showing clear steps and concepts about what non-judicial steps mean," he said.
