Sriwijaya University Forms 3 Teams To Complete Cases Of Student Sexual Harassment

PALEMBANG - The leadership of Sriwijaya University, Palembang, South Sumatra formed three teams as evidence of their seriousness in resolving cases of sexual harassment allegedly committed by two lecturers against four female students.

Sriwijaya University Chancellor, Prof. Anis Saggaf, said the three teams formed were the ethics team, the fact-finding team, and the task force team for handling sexual violence.

The Ethics Team was appointed as Chairperson of Prof. Zainuddin Nawawi, Ph.D. (Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs) with members of the dean, psychologist, Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University.

The results of the ethics team's work, for cases of alleged sexual abuse that were allegedly carried out by an FKIP lecturer with the initials A, were issued Rector's Decree No. the position of head of the laboratory, postponement of periodic salary increases for four years.

In addition, the postponement of promotion for four years, delays in submitting lecturer certification for four years.

Meanwhile, the molestation case which was allegedly carried out by a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, Rz, was based on the work of the ethics team and the letter from the Dean of FE No. 0458/UN9.FE/TU-SB4/2021 dated December 7, 2021, Chancellor Decree No. 0458/UN9.FE/TU-SB4/2021 was issued. 452/UN9/SK.BUK.KP/2021 concerning Temporary Liberation of Lecturer Rz from his duties as a lecturer.

The release of duties was carried out so that the lecturer at the Faculty of Economics could focus on dealing with the complaints of three of his students to the Regional Police.

The two lecturers are currently undergoing an investigation process at the Ditreskrimum Polda Sumsel.

To support the legal process and accelerate the resolution of the problem, his party formed a fact-finding team by appointing legal expert Febrian as its chairman.

Meanwhile, to prevent things related to sexual harassment in the future, referring to Permendikbudristek No. 30 of 2021, his party formed a Task Force for Handling Sexual Violence at Sriwijaya University, chaired by Prof. Dr. Alfitri with 10 members consisting of five lecturers and five students.

"We are trying our best to solve problems that have recently attracted public attention, hopefully, this polemic will be over soon, and invite all parties and all levels of society to work together to maintain the good name of Sriwijaya University", said the Chancellor, quoted by Antara, Friday, December 10.

Previously, the Director of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the South Sumatra Police, Kombes Hisar Siallagan, said that his party had named a lecturer with the initials A who was suspected of molesting a student at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sriwijaya University and detained him.

Meanwhile, a lecturer with the initials Rz who is suspected of molesting three students from the Faculty of Economics (FE) Sriwijaya University has not been named a suspect, because he is still in the process of collecting witness statements and evidence.

The FE lecturer with the initials Rz was reported by three female students, namely F, C, and D, for allegedly sexually harassing them verbally through short messages on social media against them on December 1, 2021.
