Bringing Home The 2021 WTF Runner Up Title, Marcus/Kevin Still Satisfied And Grateful

JAKARTA - Indonesian men's doubles Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo had to be satisfied with the runner-up position achieved in the 2021 World Tour Finals (WTF) tournament. Even though they only won the title, The Minions said they were still satisfied and grateful for the efforts they had put in.

"This achievement is more than enough, we are grateful to be able to enter the final and become five times in a row," said Kevin Sanjaya in an official statement received by VOI, Monday, December 6.

In the final round at the Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua, Marcus/Kevin competed for the title with the Japanese representative pair Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi. Unfortunately, Marcus/Kevin's hard efforts on Sunday, December 5 have not been sweet, because they lost 16-21, 21-13, 17-21 after going through the rubber game in 61 minutes.

Even though they were defeated by Japan's representatives, the Minions are still grateful for this result, because it is the fifth final in a row after the France Open, Hylo Open, Indonesia Masters, and Indonesia Open. Where out of the five finals, Kevin/Marcus won twice.

Furthermore, regarding the course of the match, Kevin explained that one of the factors that made The Minions only runners-up in WTF 2021 was being too hasty in completing opportunities.

"We are trying to get the momentum back to catch up, it's a shame we weren't able to finish the game well," said Kevin.

Meanwhile, Marcus said that all the best games had been given to The Minions against Hoki/Kobayashi. This was shown by forcing the match to continue into a rubber game.

However, the tournament which was held in a marathon as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic gave Kevin/Marcus fatigue. Marcus felt the same way during the final match.

"Today's match was very tight, we held back feeling tired. I admit that the Japanese pair today played very well," said Marcus.
