Police Officer Visiting Troubled Ormas, West Java Police: There Are Other Ways To Maintain Conduciveness

JAKARTA - Welcoming President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)'s remarks regarding the presence of a high-ranking official (Polri) visiting a number of problematic community organizations (ormas), the West Java Police said there are other ways to maintain conduciveness.

The Head of Public Relation of West Java Police, Grand Commissioner Pol Erdi A Chaniago said the directive from the president would be applied to every head of the work unit (Kasatker) in the West Java Regional Police as a result of the evaluation.

"So there are still various ways to implement it, not by making contact with troubled organizations," Erdi said, quoting Antara, Saturday, December 4.

According to Erdi, what Jokowi said was an evaluation within the police force in order to maintain the authority and professionalism of law enforcement officers. So, said Erdi, it becomes an evaluation of the activities carried out by the police, especially for all ranks of the West Java Regional Police.

"There is also firm action from us if the Kasatker in the regional police do things that violate the law and normal ethics," explained Erdi.

Previously, President Joko Widodo said that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) should maintain their authority in the right way. One of them, said the president, is to be careful when coordinating with other parties in order to maintain conduciveness.

"Be careful not to pawn authority with visiting lawbreakers. I have seen a lot of this. Brothers and sisters must have authority. Police must have authority," said the president.
