Union Berlin Beats Leipzig 2-1

JAKARTA - RB Leipzig, last season's Bundesliga runners-up, suffered a 2-1 defeat at Union Berlin on Friday, December 3 and it was their third league defeat in a row that Leipzig was unable to move from eighth in the standings while adding to the pressure on the coach Jesse Marsch.

Leipzig, who are confirmed to have been knocked out of the Champions League, for the first time in the club's history in Germany's top flight, have lost in succession in three league games so they are now 13 points behind the leaders.

Marsch, who joined this season after replacing Julian Nagelsmann, has won just five of their 14 league games this term.

Quoted from ANTARA, this latest defeat has put the American coach, who was not present at the match due to quarantine due to COVID-19, under greater pressure.

Union, who moved up to fourth in the table, took the lead when Taiwo Awoniyi found the ball at the far post six minutes into the game.

Leipzig, whose last Bundesliga away win came in April, equalized seven minutes later through Christopher Nkunku's shot from 25 meters when goalkeeper Andreas Luthe misjudged the ball.

As it snowed in the capital after half-time, Union hit back when Timo Baumgartl capitalized on Max Kruse's bouncing shot to the net from close range in the 57th minute.

Union Berlin missed several golden opportunities as Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi made several brilliant saves to keep the scoreline narrow.
