MRT Targets 40 Thousand Passengers Per Day Next Year

JAKARTA - PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is targeting the number of passengers (ridership) in 2022 to reach an average of 40 thousand people per day, in line with the decrease in the level of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in DKI Jakarta.

"We have decided on our target, the average per day in 2022 is 40 thousand passengers," said MRT Jakarta Director William Sabandar in a virtual discussion quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 30.

William explained that the number of passengers continued to increase from 14,729 passengers in September 2021, then 22,834 passengers in October 2021 and 30,101 passengers in November 2021.

MRT recorded an increase in passengers in November 2021 by 31.8 percent compared to the previous month, and 596 percent compared to July 2021, when DKI Jakarta implemented Emergency PPKM.

Especially during PPKM level one, the number of daily passengers also seems to increase, from 23,231 people per day in October 2021, to 30,294 people per day in November 2021.

In total, the number of passengers transported in October reached 627,250 people and in November as many as 787,652 people.

"A few days ago, we reached a 'peak' at 36,154 per day. The number shows that it continues to rise. This is something that is encouraging for public transportation in Jakarta," he said.

With this increase, MRT is optimistic that the average daily passenger number will reach 40 thousand passengers and will continue to increase to reach 60 thousand passengers in December 2022.

Currently, the MRT has imposed normal operating hours starting from 05.00 to 22.30 western Indonesia time on Monday to Friday and from 06.00 to 22.30 western Indonesia time on weekends and holidays.
