Student Of Sriwijaya University Palembang Harassed By Lecturer In Room, South Sumatra Police Moves To Check Witness

RIAU - A student from Sriwijaya University (Unsri) who claimed to be a victim of sexual harassment by her lecturer finally reported it to the South Sumatra Regional Police.

Head of Sub-Directorate 4 Youth, Children and Women (Renakta) of the South Sumatra Regional Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, Kompol Masnoni, said it was suspected that the victim with the initials DR was physically abused by the lecturer.

"According to the information from the victim we received, she was physically abused", he said in Palembang, Antara, Tuesday, November 30.

The victim admitted that the harassment case was experienced when facing an unscrupulous lecturer in his room a few months ago. The victim, who had finished her thesis, came before him to ask for a signature from an unscrupulous lecturer as a condition for completing her study period.

"She (the victim) has finished her thesis, she just needs to ask for a signature for the graduation application. Yes, that's where the incident was used", he said.

In addition to the DR victim, Masnoni confirmed that two other female students were victims of sexual harassment from unscrupulous lecturers at his campus.

However, the harassment they experienced was not physical but through the WhatsApp messaging application.

“There are three victims in total but currently there is only one LP (Police Report). The other two victims were abused not physically but from telephone lines", he said.

The police will follow up on the victim's report by summoning several witnesses.

After the information is considered complete, the police will conduct a crime scene investigation (TKP) and even call the lecturers as the reported parties so that this alleged case can be resolved.

"We will develop it so that this case becomes clear. If there is a criminal element, it will be followed up according to applicable law", he said.
