Umrah Reopens, DPR Asks The Ministry Of Religion To Recalculate The Costs To Be Paid By Pilgrims During Pandemic

JAKARTA - Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) held a working meeting with the Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. The meeting discussed the implementation of Umrah after it was reopened for Indonesian pilgrims.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission VIII Yandri Susanto asked the Ministry of Religion to calculate or review the reference fee that must be paid by prospective Umrah pilgrims. The main thing is to revise Minister of Religion Decree (PMA) 719/2020 regarding the implementation of Umrah during the 2020 pandemic.

"The determination of the reference fee for Umrah during the pandemic is also an urgent matter to be revised immediately according to various policies that will be taken," Yandri said in a meeting, Tuesday, November 30.

The PAN Party politician also urged the Ministry of Religion to review the Minister of Religion Regulation (PMA) 77/2020 which regulates the cost of Umrah during the pandemic. In the regulation, the reference fee for Umrah that has been listed is IDR 26 million.

According to Yandri, the study must be carried out in stages so that the cost of Umrah does not become a burdensome burden for pilgrims.

"It is necessary to immediately review whether it will remain the same or there will be a change in costs. One thing that needs to be noted by Commission VIII of the DPR RI is that the determination of reference fees for organizing Umrah worship is not too burdensome for prospective pilgrims," he concluded.
