JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said that the successful implementation of the World Superbike (WSBK) in Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on November 19-21 can be a reflection and basis for preparation for the 2022 MotoGP.
"Kemenparekraf (Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy) appreciates the support of all parties for the implementation of the 2021 World Superbike so that it can run successfully, without interruption, safely, smoothly, and this international event can be enjoyed well by the community," he said in a statement at the Weekly Press Briefing, quoted by Antara. , Monday, November 29.
According to him, the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) conveyed that the implementation of the WSBK had created a large multiplier effect for the economy of Lombok Island.
ITDC is said to have received a report from one of the tourism actors in Lombok in the field of transportation service rentals who received a turnover of up to Rp. 70 million as of the beginning of November 2021, even though they usually only get Rp. 10-15 million.
In the accommodation sector, the WSBK performance has increased hotel occupancy by an average of 95 percent or increased from before the competition was only 15 percent.
"As for the turnover itself, usually before WSBK reaches 15 percent, but after WSBK it reaches 85 percent," said Sandiaga.
The WSBK event was also stated to have created a golden opportunity for local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). In particular, MSMEs that sell food and beverages as one of the types of business feel the most economic benefits from the implementation of WSBK.
In addition, the implementation of the WSBK has recruited 1,475 workers from NTB, including residents from six buffer villages around Mandalika.
"They serve as marshals, COVID-19 safety, medical crew, event crew, crowd control, documentation, cleaning, tickets, transportation, to waste management," said the Menparekraf.

After the WSBK event took place, continued Sandiaga, the Central Lombok Regency Government said it had obtained additional Regional Original Income (PAD) from entertainment taxes of 15 percent, parking taxes of 30 percent, and restaurant and hotel taxes of 15 percent.
Then, the number of passengers arriving and departing from Lombok airport during the WSBK week from 17-23 November 2021 recorded an average of 5,700 people per day.
"This figure is an increase of 50 percent compared to the movement of passengers on the previous days throughout November 2021 with an average of 3,800 passengers per day," he said.
Aircraft traffic is also stated to have increased by 43 percent in the same period.
During November 1-16, 2021, on average there are 37 aircraft movements per day. Meanwhile, on November 17-23 2021, the average number of aircraft movements reached 53 aircraft movements per day.
