Defeating RKC Waalwijk 5 Goals Without Reply, Ajax Returns To The Top Of The Standings

JAKARTA - Ajax reclaimed the top position in the Dutch League standings after beating RKC Waalwijk 5-0 in match week 13 at the Mandemakers Stadium, Sunday local time.

Launching Antara, Sebastien Haller, and Steven Berghuis both scored two goals, which was complemented by a one-goal contribution from Jurrien Timber.

The team made by Erik ten Hag was evicted by PSV Eindhoven, who played a day early. Both collected 30 points, Ajax far ahead of PSV on goal difference.

Meanwhile, RKC, which has now gone three games without a win, has slipped to 15th place with eleven points, according to the Dutch League website.

After closing the last two matches before the international break with a score of glasses, Ajax immediately stepped on the gas to bombard the host defense.

The result in the 17th minute they opened the scoring through Haller's header which completed Dusan Tadic's cross.

RKC twice forced goalkeeper Remko Pasveer to save Ajax's goal from Ahmed Touba's long-range shot and Michiel Kramer's header.

Ajax closed the first half with a 2-0 lead over RKC thanks to Berghuis' close-range effort that capitalized on Daley Blind's pass just three minutes before the break.

Seven minutes into the second half, Antony Matheus found the net for the hosts, but was later ruled out by VAR for offside.

Ajax added to their lead in the 57th minute when Berghuis quickly grabbed the ball from Haller's shot which was not stopped by goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen.

Timber then scored Ajax's fourth goal in the 74th minute from a corner, then Haller completed the visitors' 5-0 win with a second goal seven minutes from time.

In another early game, Feyenoord crushed PEC Zwolle 4-0 at De Kuip thanks to a Bryan Linssen double and Luis Sinisterra and Guus Til goals.

The victory was enough to make Feyenoord involved in fierce competition at the top of the standings.

Feyenoord is third with 28 points, just two behind Ajax and PSV but one game ahead.
