A Chinese Man Imprisoned Two Years For His Lies Caught Hundreds Of People With COVID-19
JAKARTA - A man was sentenced to two years in prison by a panel of judges at the Guangxi Autonomous Region, China, for causing 488 people to be infected with COVID-19.
In addition to the prison sentence, the man surnamed Cao is also required to pay a fine of 200,000 yuan or around Rp. 446 million, according to the Pingxiang City court, Guangxi, quoted by local media, Sunday, November 21.
The trial revealed that Cao lied about his medical history when he returned to China in April.
He also covered up the positive case he experienced while in a hotel in Vietnam and felt symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever.

He also met some of his friends while undergoing quarantine which was a violation of health protocols as demanded by the prosecutor.
His lies have left 459 people quarantined and undergoing medical treatment. They were in the same public transport and hotel as Cao.
In addition, 29 staff at the Youyi border post, Guangxi, were also required to self-quarantine for 14 days. The incident has also caused material losses of 645,862 yuan (Rp1.4 billion).
