KPK Chairman: Regional Heads Become Corrupts Because Of Power, Opportunity, Lack Of Integrity

SEMARANG - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri asked all regional heads and DPRD leaders in Central Java to always strengthen their integrity because corruption is caused by greed, opportunity, and power.

"Self-integrity will prevent regional heads from falling into corruption cases. Anyone can be involved in corruption cases or become corrupt because of power, opportunity, and lack of integrity. Let's build, maintain, and maintain integrity," he said at the Integrated Corruption Eradication Coordination Meeting. at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja building, Semarang, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 11.

Firli reminded the five important roles of regional heads, namely realizing state goals, ensuring political stability and security, ensuring public safety from all disasters and economic growth, ensuring certainty of ease of investment and business licensing, and ensuring the sustainability of national development programs.

Firli also asked regional heads to evaluate their government's achievements in realizing improvements in the regions.

According to him, there are seven indicators that can be used as a measure of the success of regional heads in improving the welfare of their people, namely the percentage of poverty, unemployment, maternal mortality, infant mortality, human development index, income per capita, and the Gini ratio.

"Please, the regional head checks whether the program in his APBD has led to efforts to realize community welfare. The achievement figures for these indicators are the capital to carry out development," he said.

Therefore, Firli continued, the presence of the KPK in Central Java is a mandate of law, where the first three of the six tasks of the KPK according to the mandate of the law are to carry out prevention, coordination, and monitoring efforts as an effort to prevent corruption.

"Through prevention efforts, the KPK conducts a study to provide recommendations for improvement to the central and regional governments so that corruption does not occur," he said.

This was conveyed by Firli in front of 36 regional heads including governors and regents/mayors in Central Java, as well as leaders of the DPRD, BPKP Representatives, and the BPN Regional Office in the Central Java region.

This coordination meeting is also part of a series of activities to commemorate World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2021, which will peak on December 9.
