Azis Syamsuddin Rarely Examined While He Was Detained In Detention Center, KPK Says His Information Is Not Necessary
JAKARTA - Former Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Azis Syamsuddin, has only recently been brought to the Red and White House of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to undergo investigation as a suspect in connection with alleged bribery in handling corruption cases in Central Lampung.
Even though the name of the briber to the former KPK investigator, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, was often mentioned in the trial by a number of witnesses who were presented at the Jakarta Corruption Court. Then what is the cause?
KPK Director of Investigation Setyo Budiyanto said Azis was rarely called because his statement was deemed sufficient and did not need to be explored further. This is different from the condition of Stepanus when he was just detained where he was often questioned by investigators.
"Why SRP (Stepanus Robin Pattuju) has been subjected to a lot of inspections because based on the results of the examination, he has received acceptance from various sources. Therefore, many examinations have been carried out from a, b, c," Setyo told reporters as quoted on Friday, November 5.

Meanwhile, this did not happen to Azis Syamsuddin. So that the KPK considers it has received sufficient information from the former Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party.
"As for AS, there are not many. So if investigators consider it sufficient, then there is no need for a statement," said Setyo.
Even so, he did not rule out the possibility that investigators would summon Azis while he was in detention. Moreover, continued Setyo, in the trial of Stepanus Robin Pattuju, new facts often emerge which need to be investigated.
"It is possible that if investigators get information, the information will come from anywhere. For example, the prosecutor at trial conveys to the investigators there is data like this, there is information like this, this will be used as material for the examination," he said.
"The summons, which is followed by an examination, of course, will be carried out if it is necessary, but if it is considered sufficient, then it is enough there," added Setyo.
As previously reported, Azis was named a suspect after he was suspected of giving bribes to Stepanus. This bribe was given by Azis together with the former chairman of the Golkar Party Youth Force (AMPG) Aliza Gunado.
This allegation began in August 2020 when Azis contacted Stepanus to deal with allegations of corruption in Central Lampung regarding the Special Allocation Fund. This case is said to have ensnared him and former chairman of the Golkar Party Youth Force (AMPG) Aliza Gunado.
Receiving the request, Stepanus contacted Maskur Husein to oversee and manage the case, which was later agreed on the condition that Azis and Aliza had to prepare IDR 2 billion each. It's just that when Stepanus and Azis were quickly arrested, the realization of the money distribution only reached IDR 3.1 billion.
