JAKARTA - The Indonesian boccia team successfully brought home two gold medals and one silver medal from the 2024 Boccia World Cup which took place in Montreal, Canada, on 29 April-5 May 2024.

Indonesia fielded three athletes in the event which was attended by 26 countries. The first gold medal contributor for Indonesia was Muhamad Afrizal Syafa from the individual class BC1 male.

"I am grateful that I can reach the final and win the 1st place in the individual number. Hopefully, I will motivate more to look at the next event and continue to practice and evaluate again," said Afrizal Syafa in the statement.

Afrizal was also included in the team that contributed to Indonesia's second gold from the BC1/2 team class. In this number he took part with two of his other colleagues, namely Felix Ardi Yudha and Gischa Zayana.

"This is the first time we have entered the formation in the BC1/2 team. We are trying our best to compete from the group stage so that we can play until the final round and win," said Gischa Zayana, who also took part in the individual class BC2 Female and had to settle for finishing in fifth place.

Meanwhile, one silver medal that Indonesia got came from the men's BC2 individual class. The athlete who presented the medal was Felix Ardi Yudha.

"From the beginning, the group stage in individual numbers went well and was able to reach the final. However, the final match could not get maximum results. Because of that, I got a silver medal," said Felix.

Coach Islahuzzaman Nuryudin hopes that the proud achievement at the 2024 Montreal World Boccia Cup can be an injection of enthusiasm for athletes to look at the 2024 Paris Paralympics in the middle of this year.

"Hopefully this good result will motivate athletes to continue practicing in preparing their best abilities to perform at the Paris 2024 Paralympics in August 2024," he said.
