BANGLI - The phenomenon of hail as big as marbles occurred in Penglipuran Tourism Village, Kubu Village, Bangli Regency, Bali.

"In Penglipuran Tourism Village there is hail. The residents could not document it because it was immediately melted", said Head of Emergency and Logistics Section of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Bangli, I Ketut Agus Sutapa when he was contacted, Friday, February 26.

Initially, the weather in Bangli, especially in the city area, rained heavily along with the wind.

"The phenomenon of hail took about three seconds. The grains fell a lot, maybe as big as marbles. But nothing has been documented", he added.

In addition, several residents also had time to post the hail. However, from the information, there was no damage to the house due to the hail phenomenon.

"Only a lot of posts by residents. There are no (damages)", said Sutapa.

Meanwhile, the Center for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) Region III Denpasar explained, the beginning of the hail phenomenon in Bangli.

Head of Data and Information Division of BMKG Region III Denpasar, Iman Faturahman, explained that one of the formations of hail was the impact of the cumulonimbus cloud.

"It is true that one of the impacts of the CB cloud is the formation of hail", said Iman separately.

In general, this phenomenon begins with the air at night until the morning feels hot and stifling. Then, the air feels hot and stifling due to the strong solar radiation is shown.

"Starting at 10:00 in the morning, we can see cumulus clouds (or) white clouds in layers. Between them, there is one type of cloud which has a very clear gray border, towering like cauliflower", he added.

Then, the next stage of the cloud will quickly change color to gray or black which is known as the cumulonimbus (CB) cloud.

"If for 1 (or) 3 consecutive days there is no rain during the transition or transition season, rainy, then there is an indication of the potential for heavy rain which first falls followed by strong winds, whether it is in the tornado category or not. strong wind pickaxe of short duration", said Iman.

Heavy rain accompanied by hail is usually very local, the area ranges from 5 or 10 km and has a short time of fewer than 10 minutes and is more common during the transition season and often occurs during the day or evening, and sometimes at night.

"Only from cumulonimbus clouds, not from monsoon wind movements or wind movements in general. But not all CB clouds cause tornadoes, there is little chance that they will occur again in the same place", said Iman.
