Prevent Potential Extreme Rain, DKI Provincial Government Modified Weather Today

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) carried out a weather modification operation (OMC) today. OMC was carried out to prevent potential extreme rain that could occur on March 11.

"The weather modification operation will start at 06.30 WIB. The seeding plan is carried out with three sorties using the Casa 212 aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force," said Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD Data and Information Center (Kapusdatin) Mohamad Yohan to reporters, Tuesday, March 11.

Yohan said that the salt seeding (NaCl) in this weather modification operation was spread around the DKI Jakarta area in the northern part, including the Thousand Islands.

"Premises are made with a height of between 8,000 and 10,000 feet," he said.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of the potential for very heavy to extreme rain in Jakarta until March 11, 2025.

This is due to a number of atmospheric factors, such as cyclonic circulation and the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) phenomenon which also strengthens the growth of rain clouds.

Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati said there was still the potential for rain in the period late March 2025 before Eid al-Fitr. The government is preparing weather modification operations to anticipate extreme weather.

"Earlier I said, so the last 10 days of March there was still rain. It could be heavy rain too, but the duration is short, weaker than it is today," said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati, Wednesday, March 5.

He said there is the potential for extreme weather with a short duration that will be anticipated with weather modifications ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.
