JAKARTA - Sony added several updates to the PlayStation 5, which includes Dolby Atmos audio support, larger SSD capacity, console social features, and also the ability to stream PS4 and PS5 games to Android TV OS 12.

Let's review one by one the updates that will be released globally for PlayStation 5.

Dolby Atmos Audio Support

Sony delivers 3D audio powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech, so it can be enjoyed by players who have compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI devices such as soundbars, TVs or home theater systems.

"Tempest 3D AudioTech specifically delivers Dolby Atmos audio devices in use, including overhead channels – allowing for a greater level of immersion in PS5 game audio tapes," said Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Experience, SIE in the announcement.

Larger SSD capacity

PS5 players can now also use M.2 SSDs with a maximum capacity of 8TB, up from just 4TB previously. This additional capacity will provide more storage space for your PS5 console.

Social console features

Another update coming to PS5 is the console's social features. Where when you are invited to a closed party, you will not be added to the group automatically anymore. So, you don't have to interact with other people you don't want to.

And if someone is sharing their screen at a party you're in, you'll be able to see a preview before you even enter. If you're the one inviting people, you can now send closed and open party invites to multiple players simultaneously.

Additionally, you'll also be able to see which of your friends are doing activities you can participate in under the Friends tab, as the interface will now display a "combinable" icon next to them.

Stream PS4 and PS5 games

Lastly, this update will give you the ability to stream PS5 or PS4 games from devices running Android TV OS 12.

So far, according to Engadget's notes, Sony has verified that the PS Remote Play application is compatible with 4K Chromecast with Google TV devices and BRAVIA XR A95L smart TV models.

If you're a PS5 player in the US and in the UK, Sony is adding new voice commands you can use. You just need to say “Hey PlayStation, help” to quickly open the help page or “Hey PlayStation, what’s new?” to check out the latest features and the current PS Plus lineup.
