US Cybersecurity Agency Will Review Cloud Security Violations In Microsoft

JAKARTA - The United States Cybersecurity Agency will review issues related to cloud-based identity and authentication infrastructure that will include evaluation of recent breaches by Microsoft that led to email theft from US government agencies. This was announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Friday, August 11.

A review by the Cyber Security Review Board will see malicious targeting of cloud computing environments, the DHS statement said.

"Organizations of different types increasingly rely on cloud computing to provide services to the American people, which makes it very important for us to understand its vulnerability to the technology," DHS Minister Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement.

This review comes after US Senator Ron Wyden last July asked the Federal Trade Commission, Cybersecurity Agency and Infrastructure, and the Department of Justice to "act" against Microsoft following the hack.

Microsoft has been increasingly being investigated after the disclosure that alleged hackers working in Beijing got one of its cryptography keys and took advantage of weaknesses in programming to gain broad access to the company's cloud email platform.

A review by the Cyber Security Review Board will provide recommendations to help organizations protect against malicious access to cloud-based accounts, DHS said.
