JAKARTA - The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) around the world is currently experiencing very rapid developments. Almost all stakeholders around the world are currently busy making this technology policy, including in Indonesia.
When met at the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Summit (AIIS 2023) at JIExpo Kemayoran, Nezar Patria, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) said that currently the Indonesian government is also observing the development of Generative AI.
"I think, as many countries in the world are also watching this AI development, we will continue to look at and encourage positive progress from AI," Nezar told the media on Thursday, August 10.
Although it is not uncommon for AI to pose risks, such as misinformation, Nezar admitted that the government did not rush to ban the use of AI in Indonesia.
"In this case, we know that AI Generatives sometimes cause a number of problems. For example, misinformation is generated, so that's the tendency we are trying to map," he explained.

"Because the development is also quite fast, so we are not in a hurry to prohibit this from prohibiting it. We first try to pay attention to its development. We encourage the positive aspect," added Nezar.
Nezar also said that the mapping of positive and negative impacts as well as risk mitigation of the development of AI Generative is still being carried out, along with stakeholders.
"In the discussion, actually (AI regulations) and in monitoring. We continue to communicate with many institutions and many stakeholders as well. So we try to mitigate the negative risks, but also encourage the positive aspect of using AI, that's what we are looking at," concluded the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information.
