Worldcoin, Blockchain-Based Digital Identity Platform Announces Migration To Optimism

JAKARTA - Worldcoin (WLD), a crypto platform focused on developing digital identities, announced its success in the process of migrating from Polygon (MATIC) to Optimism (OP), the second-tier Ethereum (L2) scale.

This decision was taken after Worldcoin decided to move the World App and World ID applications to Optimism in February. In its announcement, Worldcoin expressed its commitment to realizing a measurable and inclusive crypto future and developing digital identity by utilizing blockchain technology.

This migration involves developing bridges or liaisons for the World ID protocol from Ethereum to Polygon and Optimism. Most of the World App user accounts have been successfully migrated to Optimism, while for the remaining accounts, they will be invited to migrate after the application is active with a rapid migration process, lasting about 90 seconds.

Since its launch, more than 2 million registrations have been recorded by Worldcoin, with a large number of users from major cities in various parts such as Barcelona, Berlin, Buenos Aires, New York, Seoul, and Tokyo. This registration involves users preparing the Orbs biometric device, which is used to recognize users by reading the user's eye slices and registering the information into the protocol.

Worldcoin's migration to Optimism brings benefits to the concept of "superchain" developed by Optimism, which encourages the interoperability of some networks on the L2 platform and makes it a "platform for networks" as reported by Bitcoin.com News.

This is also in line with the development of Base, the Ethereum L2 scale layer built by Coinbase, as well as showing progress and improvement for decentralized protocols in providing ID validation services for various purposes.
