Kaspersky Gives Tips To Avoid Online Investment Fraud

JAKARTA - Some time ago, Kaspersky researchers discovered a series of fake apps on Google Play exploiting today's hottest topics, including AI, chat bots, crypto assets and links related to tech mogul Elon Musk.

According to the expert, the application being analyzed lures victims in daily profits of up to 9,000 US dollars (Rp. 133 million), with an initial investment of only 250 US dollars (Rp. 3.1 million).

Not only that, the company has also identified a phishing page that uses a similar technique and structure. It is very likely that this phishing attack was orchestrated by the same operators responsible for spreading the fake app.

"Online fraudsters are constantly evolving their tactics to exploit the latest trends and technologies. From fake apps to phishing pages, they use bait and attractive designs to target unsuspecting users," said Igor Golovin, security expert at Kaspersky.

To protect yourself from investment scams, Kaspersky experts also recommend:

• Be wary of suspicious links and emails: Avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links, especially those received via email, messages or social media platforms. Verify the source and legitimacy before interacting with any links or attachments.
• Be careful with personal information: Be careful when sharing personal information online, especially on public platforms. Avoid providing sensitive details unless you are sure of the legitimacy and security of the website or service.
• Use reputable security software: Install reputable antivirus and anti-malware software on your device. Scan your device regularly for potential threats and keep your security software up to date.
• Educate yourself about common scams: Stay informed about the latest cyber threats, phishing techniques and social engineering tactics. Be wary of unsolicited requests, suspicious offers, or urgent requests for personal or financial information.

Trust your instincts: If something seems too good to be true or feels suspicious, trust your instincts. If you are not sure about a particular website, link or communication channel, be careful and don't let it bother you.
