Mayorkas also encouraged efforts to use AI to secure electricity grids and water supply systems, both of which were considered potential targets from opponents.
"The speed of rapid technological changes - the important moment we are experiencing now - requires our current action," Mayorkas said.
Mayorkas said on Thursday April 20 that the new task force could also investigate the potential use of AI for malicious purposes and find ways to defend themselves.
He said that any steps to regulate AI must find a "meeting point" where the government can develop security without hindering innovation.
