Jose Mourinho Opens Opportunities To Return To Real Madrid

JAKARTA - Fenerbahce's manager, Jose Mourinho, said he did not rule out running for Real Madrid again.

The 61-year-old coach once led Los Blancos to the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup for three seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010 and 2013.

"I will always be a big Real Madrid fan. They have the best coaches in the world, my friend Carlo (Ancelotti)."

"He did very well. The future depends on what the President (Florentino Perez) wants."

"Does he want a young coach with big projections like Xabi (Alonso) or to continue on the same track as Carlo, a coach with experience."

"Or, he saw the junior (coach of the Real Madrid reserve team) with Raul Gonzales or ( Real Madrid junior team coach) Alvaro Arbeloa. It depends," said Mourinho.

Meanwhile, former Real Madrid midfielder who is currently Bayer Leverkusen Manager, Xabi Alonso, is considered one of the leading candidates to replace Ancelotti, if Madrid separates from the Italian coach.

Ancelotti, who is now 65 years old, is currently serving his second term at Real Madrid and has a contract until June 2026.

Mourinho, who took over the job at Fenerbahce six months after leaving Rome, believes President Los Blancos will make the right choice when it comes time to appoint a replacement for Ancelotti.

"Florentino (Perez) doesn't make much wrong decisions in Madrid. I believe as a Real Madrid fan that the next decision will be the right decision," Mourinho said again.

Real Madrid are currently in second place in the 2024/2025 La Liga standings, two points adrift of Barcelona but still have one game more.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos' journey in the 2024/2025 Champions League is less convincing. They are ranked 20th with nine points.

There are still two remaining matches in the group phase for Real Madrid struggling to win tickets to the round of 16. Most recently, that hope became more open after winning over Atalanta 3-2 on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, early morning WIB.

Real Madrid are only three points adrift of the top eight team or the qualifying zone straight into the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.
