JAKARTA The desire of the French national team to end the title drought at the 2023 U-17 World Cup in Indonesia begins with the challenge against Burkina Faso.

Les Bluests will play the first match of the Group E phase against Burkina at the Jakarta International Stadium, Jakarta, Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 16.00 WIB.

France have previously won this tournament once. Their only success in the history of the tournament came in 2001 when it was held in Tokyo and Tobago.

Since winning this competition, France's best journey afterwards occurred in the 2019 edition in Brazil. At that time, they successfully reached the semifinals and then won the third title after defeating the Netherlands.

After 22 years of not feeling the title, France is present in Indonesia with the ambition of winning.

They came on as favorites after becoming the finalists of this year's U-17 European Championships.

Indonesia's U-17 World Cup 2023 will be France's eighth appearance in this tournament. Since becoming the 2001 champion, France has qualified five times for the final round from nine editions.

In their seven appearances in the tournament to date, France has always qualified for the knockout stages.

They have also won all three group stage matches in the last three editions of this competition.

On the other hand, Burkina Faso will appear in Indonesia for the fifth time in the history of competition.

On the previous four occasions, their best performance was the 2001 semifinals.

Wilfried Sanou at that time managed to lead Burkina Faso to a bronze medal after surprisingly successfully defeating Argentina in the race for third place.
