Borussia Dortmund Gives Newcastle United First Defeat In Champions League

JAKARTA - Newcastle United lost their first in the Champions League. Newcastle experienced the 1-0 defeat when they host Borussia Dortmund in Group F match at St James' Park Stadium, Thursday, October 26 in the morning WIB.

Disappointing results and becoming Newcastle's anticlimactics. How not, in the previous match which was also held at home, Newcastle slaughtered Paris Saint Germain's strong team 4-1.

A big win that brought the Magpies to the top of the standings. But Newcastle immediately lost consistency at home to Dortmund and had to lose their position after losing.

The defeat at home made the English Premier League team drop to third with point four. The same as Dortmund's points, but Newcastle lost the goal difference.

Meanwhile, PSG, who won a 3-0 victory over AC Milan, took the top spot after pocketing six points. Milan itself is at the bottom of the standings.

This Italian Serie A team has yet to win and only has two points from twice the draw against Newcastle and Dortmund.

Tight competition with tight points so that the teams in the group could not confirm who qualified for the knockout round.

PSG are indeed at the pole position after occupying the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Dortmund opened hopes to qualify despite competing with Newcastle and Milan.

In that match, Newcastle and Dortmund both had difficulties facing the opponent's defense. Dortmund finally broke the deadlock through Felix Nmecha who scored towards the end of the first half.

Newcastle was actually able to get up in the second half. At least, The Toon Army got a chance that could be converted into a goal.

However, Callum Wilson's header still hit the post. Likewise, Anthony Gordon's last-minute chance also failed to score so that the 1-0 score for Dortmund did not change once the final whistle sounded.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe did not fail to express his disappointment because the team failed to take advantage of the profits while playing in the home game. According to him, Newcastle should not lose that match.

"I'm sure we don't deserve to lose this game," Howe said.

"Now we are in a difficult situation. But nothing is easy in the Champions League. We must be able to win in away matches which will definitely not be easy. But we must be ready to face it," he said again.

Meanwhile, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic said that if the team were a little lucky they could win. This is inseparable from Dortmund's solid defense which makes it difficult for Newcastle.

"In the second half, we did strengthen the defense. We were also a little lucky so we could win," said Terzic.

According to him, the competition in Group F is indeed tight and each team will fight hard to qualify.
