Shin Tae-yong Reportedly Received An Additional 3 Year Contract, This Is The Surprising Confession Of PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chair (Ketum) Erick Thohir responded to an issue that said Shin Tae-yong could extend the contract for the next three years as head coach of the Indonesian national team. According to Erick Thohir, everything is still going according to the original plan.

Shin Tae-yong actually had a contract until the end of 2023, but because of the need for the Indonesian national team with a solid agenda, the South Korean coach's contract was extended until June 2024.

But recently there has been speculation saying the coach's contract will be extended for another three years.

"My talk with Coach Shin Tae-yong (about the contract) is still until June 2024," said Erick Thohir during a press conference at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta on Tuesday, October 10.

However, Erick Thohir gave a signal that Shin's contract would be extended even longer. The main reason is that Shin Tae-yong's contribution has made many achievements for the Garuda Squad.

"Where will the assessment be whether the extension is longer, of course, in accordance with the achievements at the Asian Championships (Asian Cup) in Qatar, both senior and U-23," said Erick.

"I think Coach Shin Tae-yong has done his best when he brought the U-23 to qualify in Asia for the first time in history and our national team after 17 years of returning to play at the Asian level," he continued.

He emphasized that the contract extension would be based on Shin Tae-yong's achievements in meeting PSSI's targets. He will also discuss this with the coach.

"But if (the contract) is longer, I hope there are targets that we agree on. I will discuss with coach Shin Tae-yong, I have a closeness and this is a good thing for Indonesian football," said Erick.
